Step 8. Define and detailing.

In this picture I used the eye dropper to select a shaded area in the painting. I then selected the paintbrush, set the opacity and flow to around 20-30, and then painted her skin to smooth out her complexion. I rounded her chin out a bit and painted her lips with more detail. With the dodge/burn tool I highlighted and darken spots in her hair; then with a small paintbrush I drew more strands of hair.

Use the smudge tool with a really low setting to smooth out the hair strands you drew with the paintbrush.

  1. Resmudge the hair and added dark areas with the burn tool and light areas with the dodge tool. Next use a size 2 paintbrush. Pick a highlight color for her hair and draw strands over the dodged areas.

  2. Dodge/burn and smudge tool.

  3. Small paintbrush for hair strand and smudge tool set at around 2-5 to smooth out hair strand.

Step 9. Adjustments.

The overall image I though was too dark. So I brighten it up and lowered the saturation level to give it a more realistic tone.

Well that's it for this tutorial. I hope it helps you with your own digital art.
